i'm watching the sox game, and it's currently the fifth inning with a score of 13-1, sox are up. according to the announcers, it is "devastating." and awesome. devastatingly awesome.
i feel a world series victory coming on.
here's a picture from the last one, just as a refresher:

I AM NOT EN FUEGO
a pretty big chunk of the state is, however, on fire. none of the fires are nearby, thankfully, but the sky definitely looks hazier than usual in some directions -- even considering the smog that usually populates the area. hopefully nothing will happen in any closer proximity to where we live, which is a very heavily trafficked/populated area; there isn't anything we have to worry about, but a lot of people would have major problems if these fires spread to another big city like malibu that's outside of los angeles proper.
i'm getting ready to go to bed for another day of work -- oh joy -- but i figured i'd update this with a little blip about how we're safe and have nothing to be concerned about, except all of the people whose homes are actually being burned to the ground. as of now, according to the la times, that number is around 1,200 (houses that have been destroyed). the la times homepage seems to be the best place to stay updated about this whole mess.

THIS WEEK WAS A BLUR
the reason? i've been sick. also, i've had two run-ins with caffeine or similar products, where i got all jittery and my heart was racing. one of these occasions was today, and it was very unpleasant. here are some quick blips, since i'm tired from the illness and the shaking and whatnot:
still working; it's getting a little easier each day but it's still really hard and kind of sucks. although i can't complain about getting enormous checks on fridays.
we got a dvr, which means we record tv all the time; plus side, we can record anything and have been able to watch the sox games; negative side, all i do now is watch tv on weeknights.
i really need to stain the bedframe and find some paint for our walls; i want to get this place finished, and a key component is paint and getting rid of cardboard (we have tons).
tomorrow night is a halloween party, but i have no costume; two ideas, build a wearable fort with some of the cardboard, or be a bag of jellybeans again.
i need to start eating healthier things; i don't usually eat lunch at work, just almonds and pretzels and occasionally some other kind of junk-ish food; i should start having two to three meals a day, because i'm not walking anymore and i can tell it's taking a toll.
i'm excited to go to bed, but that requires washing my face and all of that nonsense. i'm going to do those things now, because i am very sleepy.

BYE JOE TORRE!
on sunday, joe and rachel and i went to a bar in santa monica called sonny mclean's -- it was opened by people from boston, and is the biggest place for people from new england to meet up and watch sports. it was absolutely packed for the third game of the sox's series against the angels, and was very very awesome. every inch of the place was covered with boston memorabilia -- bu and bc pennants, harvard sweatshirts, signs from weei's inserts in the sunday globe, ads for kelly's roast beef, streetsigns from natick and newton. lots and lots of stuff. they serve only dunkin' donuts coffee, which is awesome since there are none around here, and they're basically a new england institution.
i met a girl from york and one who just graduated from bc, and tons of other people -- fans who cheered three times as loudly as fans in boston, to make up for the fact that they're stuck thousands of miles away from their hometown. it was very great; i did not want to leave at all. in the middle of the seventh inning, everyone sang sweet caroline; someone was carrying a broom around and chanting "sweep!" (like fans did in kenmore square, after they won the world series). i have to say, we had a fantastic time; i think rachel and i are going back this weekend. unfortunately (or fortunately, financially), joe has to start working this weekend, so i don't think he can make it. we'll cheer twice as loudly for his mass. heritage. it was a great place to be, but it really made me miss boston. luckily, everyone else in the place felt exactly the same way.
as an aside -- good riddance, joe torre!
my job is improving slowly; i'm learning things somewhat slowly, but am getting practiced at actually answering the phone and following procedure, which makes it easier overall. i like my coworkers, i get paid a lot, and it'll be a great job to put on a resume in the future, so all of these things are good.
joe got a job at the norton simon museum, as i mentioned, and he has orientation tomorrow. i'm going to shower quickly, so we can watch mythbusters and go to bed early.
p.s. we painted our living room; i'll try to take pictures tomorrow and put them online. i really like the way it's turning out.
